Geraldine May Gerschefske, 83, Owensville, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, at her residence.

She was born March 23, 1938, to William “Hugo” and Margaret (Schallon) Van Kirk in Kirkwood.

She was united in marriage to Louis Gerschefske July 6, 1985, in Rosebud.

Geraldine was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rosebud, Zion Lutheran Church of Owensville and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Geraldine was known for having a large family, consisting of 10 children, 25 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren gave her the name “GG” which she loved. She never went anywhere without wearing one of her hats on and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed talking to anyone about one of her beloved kids or grandchildren. She loved to play bingo, sing to her kids and grands, taking trips with her daughters, spending time with her family and researching her family heritage, tracing her family tree back to the 1600’s.

She was preceded in death by parents, William and Margaret; husband Louis; son, Timothy, granddaughter, Alicia, daughter-in-law, Teresa, granddaughter-in-law, Megan, sons-in-law, Joe and Bill; brother, Irvin and twin brother, Gerald; brothers-in-law, Alvin, Richard, Fred, Frank and Roland; and sisters-in-law, Delores, Milda, Helen and Edna.

She is survived by children, Bonnie Lewis and Cindy Storie, both of Owensville, Tina Fortner of Piedmont, Penny Simmons of Cuba, Toni Van Leer and husband Jim of Union, Suzy Dozier and husband Matt of Owensville; step-children, Alan Gerschefske and wife Rachel of Rosebud, Anita Gauzy of Washington and Danny Gerschefske of Rosebud; grandchildren, Amanda, Stephen, Travis, Vince, Lucas, Jimmy, Chasity, Josh, Jason, Jesse, Jodi, Michelle, Kenny, James, Savannah, Heather, Makayla, and Alex, Alyssa, Austin, Cody, Sara, Devin, and Megan; 39 great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces and many other loved ones.

Visitation was Tuesday, May 4, at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville.

Funeral services will be (today), Wednesday, May 5 at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosebud with Rev. Tim Weiser and Rev. David Roth officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.

Memorials requested to American Legion in Rosebud or Immanuel Lutheran School.
