Gladyne Elsie Forster, 92, Owensville, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 10, 1927, to Ivan and Elsie (Chapman) Spurgeon, at Oak Hill.

She was united in marriage to Homer J. Forster, April 5, 1946, in Steelville.

Gladyne was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and making jellies and pickles. She graduated high school and went to St. Louis where she worked as a switchboard operator at BellTelephone Company. She saved the life of a lady that had a heart attack who called her for help. She always said 1946 was her favorite year because that’s the year she was married.

She was preceded in death by parents, Ivan and Elsie; husband, Homer; and sisters, Wanda Brink, Joan Orlando and Pauline Spurgeon.

She is survived by son, David Forster of Owensville; daughters, Nancy Seegraves of Williamsville, Judy Lewis and husband Mike of Owensville and Barbara Barch of Owensville and friend John Birkman of New Haven; brother, Lenard Spurgeon and wife Melva of Topeka, Kan.; and nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Visitation will be held (today) Wednesday, July 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville. Funeral services will follow with Rev. Dennis Spurgeon officiating. Burial will be in Licklider Cemetery on Cuba Route. Visitation and funeral are open to the public. Please observe restrictions. Masks are requested but not required. Memorial contributions suggested to Licklider Cemetery.
