While she may have been 33 miles away Saturday afternoon, Breanna Diestelkamp must have been on the mind of her older sister Hailey.

That could be because the shot that made Hailey Diestelkamp’s Drury University’s (DU) all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball was eerily similar to how Breanna reached 1,000 points during her time in an Owensville Dutchgirl basketball uniform.

Hitting a 3-pointer at the 9:49 mark of the third quarter Saturday afternoon in DU’s Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) showdown with McKendree University (MU) Lady Bearcats, Hailey passed former DU Lady Panther Amanda Newton-Plottner for first place on DU’s all-time career scoring list.

Finishing with a game-high 18 points, Diestelkamp ended the game with 1,820 career points with 17 regular-season games yet to play.

“Hailey is so deserving of this record as she’s one of the hardest-working and most talented athletes I’ve ever coached,” DU head women’s basketball coach Molly Miller said. “I can’t be any more proud of her history-making career. I feel lucky that I get a front row seat to watch it all unfold.”

Diestelkamp’s hard work on and off the court has earned her additional records at Drury for career rebounds, most points in a season, rebounds in a season, scoring average in a season and points in a single game.

“She can and will be the best player on any gym and in any classroom,” former Dutchgirl head basketball coach Dwayne Clingman said via Twitter. “She has earned everything by being a great person and a great leader.”

Clingman is currently the assistant principal at Helias High School in Jefferson City.

Currently 12-0 overall and 3-0 in GLVC play, Diestelkamp has helped the Lady Panthers stay ranked number on atop the NCAA Division II National Rankings from the preseason up until now.

While the records are great, Diestelkamp’s focus now shifts to the big prize.

“Breaking the (career scoring) record was great, but I’m focused on winning a National championship with my team,” Diestelkamp said.

Drury’s next action will be tomorrow (Thursday) night in Springfield against the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) Lady Tritons.

Normally this would be just another ordinary GLVC women’s basketball game.

With Hailey’s younger sister Breanna a freshman for the Lady Tritons, it will mark just the second time in GLVC women’s basketball history that sisters have faced each other on the hardwood.

One would have to go all the back to 2005 and the Wisser sisters.
