The Lady Bearcats softball team rebounded from a home loss to Union in a big way, stringing together three straight wins on the road over the last week by taking down St. James, Pacific, and Cuba to improve their record to 8-5 on the season and 4-2 in the Four Rivers Conference.
Hermann defeated St. James 19-2 on Wednesday, Sep. 25, Pacific 5-0 on Thursday, Sep. 26, and Cuba 16-0 on Monday, Sep. 30.
While they have had games in the past where the offense and pitching have not come together, it was an all around team effort on display in their win streak.
They outscored their opponents 40-2 in those games, and received some superb starting pitching. Even the two runs surrendered to St. James were not earned, giving the starting pitcher in that game Kimber Hale a final line of five hits, two walks, and 13 strikeouts in the seven inning complete game.
The offense also had a strong day against St. James with 13 total hits and 12 walks as part of their 19-run game, highlighted by Taylor Carver’s 3-5 day at the plate that included a home run.
Carver followed that up with an excellent start against the Lady Indians in Pacific in which she threw a complete game shutout, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out 19 batters.
Although Hermann scored a comparatively low total of five runs against Pacific, they still racked up 14 hits as a team, with Sheilah Dodorico, Delilah Nobel, Molly Scheer, Hale, and Carver each having multihit games.
Upon reaching their eighth win of the year, Hermann has already secured their best record in at least 15 years, surpassing the 7-15 record they had in 2015.
After defeating Cuba, the Lady Bearcats returned home to face the South Callaway Lady Bulldogs Tuesday, Oct. 1, the results of which were not available at the time of publication.
They will next play St. Pius X from Festus Thursday, Oct. 3, at 4:30 p.m. at home before hosting the Hermann Softball Tournament this Saturday, Oct. 5.
Hermann is scheduled to play games against St. Clair at 9 a.m., Mark Twain at 12:45 p.m., and St. James at 6 p.m.
