Hibler, Ammerman honored for service

Harold Hibler was the recipient Saturday of a rifle and an axe for his retirement after 48 years as a volunteer with the Owensville Fire Department. Presenting the awards at the Lions Club Den were Deputy Chief Martin Schlottach, Jack Kurrelmeyer, department chaplain, and Chief Jeff Arnold. Hilber joined the department in September 1972 and retired in September 2020. He served as chief from 1979-81, assistant chief from 1992-94, and was second assistant in 1993, 1996, and 1997. He also served as a trustee for six years and was the Firefighter of the Year in 1990. Recognized for 30 years of volunteer service was Charles “Dinger” Ammerman. His recognition was inadvertently overlooked during the awards banquet and family dinner for the 2019 calender year. Daren Knight, who was unable to attend, was recognized with a rifle and an axe on his retirement after 27 years of service to the all-volunteer department. Arnold was named as the department’s Firefighter of the Year for 2020 in voting by his fellow firemen.
