Historic season for Dutchgirl volleyball

For five members of the Owensville High School Class of 2021, their final season of high school volleyball was one that they will never forget.
Going over four decades without a district title, Jamie Ridenhour’s Dutchgirl spikers looked to put an end to that drought.
Defeating Sullivan in front of their home fans in the OHS main gym back in late October, the Dutchgirl senior quintet of Emily McKinney, Haley Coello, Cadi Ruth, Grace McFalls and Taylor McClure helped lead the volleyball team to end the longest district title drought.
In three years of varsity action, McKinney racked up 410 kills, 99 aces, 109 blocks, 1,084 digs and 34 assists.
Recording 204 kills as a senior, McKinney’s best output came with 15 kills against Sullivan in the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) match from late September.
She also recorded 13 kills in matches against Pacific and Montgomery County.
Behind the serving line, McKinney’s served up a season and career-high seven aces in early September against Belle. She matched that number as a junior with seven aces against Capital City.
At the net, McKinney’s recorded a career-high five blocks in an early September match against Capital City’s Lady Cavaliers.
Recording at least 10 digs in 52 matches during her OHS volleyball career, McKinney posted a career-high 31 digs in two matches against St. Clair and Washington.
Known primarily as a threat at the net, Coello did most of her damage there racking up 263 kills and 178 blocks in two varsity seasons of Dutchgirl volleyball.
Saving her best for last, Coello recorded a season and career-high 16 kills in Owensville’s district-championship match against Sullivan. The night before, Coello posted 15 kills in the district semifinals against St. James.
Coello’s best blocking output came against Washington in mid-September with eight blocks.
Digging was Ruth’s area of expertise posting 898 digs in two years of varsity volleyball.
Out of 47 matches with 10 or more digs, Ruth’s career high came as a senior with 31 digs against St. Clair two weeks before the district tournament played at home.
Ruth also racked up 66 kills and 28 aces in her two years of varsity Dutchgirl volleyball.
McFalls was a dual threat on the court posting 215 kills, 38 aces, 40 blocks and 581 digs during her three years of varsity volleyball at OHS.
Putting up 30 or more digs in three matches as a senior, McFalls’ career high came against St. James in the district semifinals with 32 digs.
In the kill department, McFalls had 10 of them against Pacific, Fatima and St. James as a senior.
Departing the team due to personal reasons midway through her senior season, McClure finished her Dutchgirl volleyball career with 322 assists.
Recording at least 10 assists in seven matches as a senior, McClure recorded a career-high 18 assists in FRC matches against Sullivan and Union.
