In praise of Mr. Rogers

To the Editor:

In his TV show and also in his personal life Fred Rogers had the extraordinary ability to bring love and understanding to everyone he met personally and to those who watched his show.

He was an ordained Episcopal Minister and took his mission of bringing God’s love to the world very seriously. I would consider him a saint although his religious side is sometimes overlooked. His biography shows that he was always the way he was.

His kind of behavior always draws attention and abuse from the bully class and even Fred needed the protection of a friend who Fred had helped to some difficulty.

Those of us who don’t have his dedication and gentle manner should be called to be friends of Fred and support those who do.

Unfortunately his ways are not the ways of the world and his care, honesty, and dedication are rare in this world and especially rare among the swamp denizens in Washington who put desire for power and position above all other values. There are very few if any long-term politicians in Washington who have Fred’s value.

President Trump’s background may not be as bright and shiny as we would like and some of his actions in days gone by cannot be defended, but they are gone by.

Very few politicians could withstand a close scrutiny of their early life.

Sometimes his words are crude and not as mild as Fred’s but his actions and moral behavior since his election do not warrant the attacks and criticism that are the Democrat talking points.

They are without evidence or facts and are only innuendos and half-truths and duplicity.

All this hatred and hostility is happening because an election was lost due to the wisdom of our founders in establishing the electoral college. The electoral college is good for Missouri.
