Two informational meetings about the city of Owensville’s proposed quarter-cent sales tax increase to support parks operations are planned including one tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club Den on Krausetown Road.

The proposal will be on the city’s April 2 Municipal Election ballot and will ask for support of a sales increase from the current one-quarter cent to one-half cent. If approved, a tax levy on personal property and real estate for city residents which is designated for park operations would be eliminated.

 Along with increasing the sales tax, the proposal would end the Owensville Park Board’s role as an administrative board with control over spending the city’s designated park levy. The Park Board would become an advisory board and elected members of the Board of Aldermen would control the spending which would include only sales tax revenue with elimination of the designated parks tax levy.

City residents will still pay personal property and real estate taxes designated for the general revenue and debt service funds.

A second informational meeting is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at the Owensville Senior Center on North First Street.
