The Race Across America began Saturday, June 15, in Oceanside, Calif. and ended Friday, June 21 in Annapolis, Md. Dubbed the world’s toughest bicycle race, it draws competitors from around the globe. Last Thursday, Team Aspect, made of up of bicyclists from Kilkenny, Ireland, stopped at Lonigro’s Supermarket in Gerald for some rest and food. The team supports four cyclists, one of whom is always on the road. The amateur group is one of many competing against two professional teams to complete the 3,089 mile course in the fastest time. They left Lonigro’s parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, expecting to get to the east coast the following evening.
