Irma Freida Johanning Vogt Thenhaus, 99, Gerald, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at Grandview Health Care Center in Washington.

She was born Dec. 9, 1919, to Henry and Amelia Hanna (Janssen) Johanning.

She was first united in marriage to Elmer Vogt, Aug. 12, 1936. He preceded her in death Nov. 17, 1976. She then married Esco Thenhaus, Nov. 24, 1978. He preceded her in death Sept. 9, 2001.

Irma was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald. She enjoyed quilting at church and volunteered with numerous organizations in Gerald. She enjoyed her family, playing Pinochle, music and dancing and was greatly remembered for homemade pies and apple butter. She was presented the Pioneer Citizen Award Oct. 28, 2009, by the Gerald Chamber of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Amelia Johanning; husbands, Elmer and Esco; brothers, Wilfred, Raymond, Delmar and Harry Johanning; and sister, Henrietta Danz.

She is survived by children, Donald Vogt and wife Betty of Gerald, Bob Vogt and wife Linda of Centralia, Carol and husband Dr. John Crane of Washington, Nancy Schmidt and husband Lonnie of Creve Coeur, Jeff Vogt and wife LuAnn of Gerald and Dorothy Thenhaus Gauzy and husband Jerome of Sullivan; brother, Vertis Johanning and wife Hallie of Leslie; sisters, Lois Schollmeyer of Sullivan and Grace Altemeyer of Kirkwood; 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 23, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald with Pastor Glen Hollander officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery in Gerald. Memorial contributions suggested to St. Paul’s United Church of Church in Gerald.
