Jamboree time for some, not all

Any other fall, Owensville High School football, softball and volleyball teams would be preparing for their upcoming jamborees.

However, Nathan Cabot’s Owensville Dutchmen football team will have to wait another week.

Originally scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21, the Dutchmen were to have competed in jamboree football action at Hermann with the host Bearcats, Fulton Hornets, Montgomery County Wildcats and South Callaway Bulldogs.

Thanks to recommendations from the Missouri Football Coaches Association (MFCA) and the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) the majority of preseason football jamborees have been canceled throughout the state in hopes of being able to start and finish the upcoming football season.

Owensville will open the 2020 regular season on Friday, Aug. 28 on the road in Washington County against Potosi’s Trojans.

Following that contest, Cabot’s Dutchmen will spend the entire month of September at the friendly confines of Dutchmen Field with home games against Eldon’s Mustang’s, Cuba’s Wildcats, St. James’ Tigers and Hermann’s Bearcats.

Hannah (Wehar) Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team saw their jamboree modified from its’ originally scheduled format.

It was originally supposed to be St. James hosting Owensville, St. Clair and Hermann in Phelps County on Saturday, Aug. 21.

However, to reduce travel and the number of people in attendance, the jamboree was split in half.

Owensville will host Hermann and St. James will host St. Clair both on Saturday.

Held at OHS Field on the campus of Owensville High School, Koppelmann’s Dutchgirls will host Hermann’s Lady Bearcats in an eight-inning scrimmage beginning at 11 a.m.

R-2 athletic department officials have recommended that spectators be limited to families of participants only.

It has also been recommended that spectators bring their own lawn chairs to provide seating on the hillside or down the first and third-base lines.

Officials are also asking spectators to sit in family groups and keep six feet of distance between groups. It is also recommended for masks to be worn when social distancing is not possible.

Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball team will round out the list of jamborees for OHS by traveling to Sullivan on Tuesday, Aug. 25 to face the host Lady Eagles and St. Clair’s Lady Bulldogs.

Beginning at 5 p.m., at Sullivan High School, OHS will face the host Lady Eagles followed by the Dutchgirls playing St. Clair. Sullivan and St. Clair will be the third and final match.
