John Carpenter, 78, Gerald, passed away Thurs., Dec. 17, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Washington.
He was born Dec. 16, 1942, to Roy and Helen (Austin) Carpenter, in Glen Falls, N.Y.
He was first united in marriage to Carol Vanauker, Sept. 7, 1962, in New Mexico. He was later united in marriage to Margaret Schlittler, Aug. 26, 2011, in Union.
John retired from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief.
John enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and reading.
He was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Helen; his first wife, Carol; two brothers, Preston and Paul Carpenter; and a grandchild, Macayla Carpenter.
He is survived by wife, Margaret Schlittler; daughter, Tonya Boehmer and husband Craig of New Haven; son, John A. Carpenter of Washington; brothers, Mike Carpenter of Tyler of Texas, Tom Carpenter and wife Denise of Tyler, Texas, and Dave Carpenter of Spokane, Wash.; sisters, Pat Webber of Tyler, Texas, Mary Scarborough of Mabank, Texas, and Gloria Quick and husband Fred of Sholow, Ariz.; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. He was an uncle and great-uncle to many.
Funeral services were held Tues., Dec. 22, at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home Chapel in Gerald with Rev. Ron Koppelmann officiating. Burial with full military honors was at Boeuff Presbyterian Cemetery at Gerald. Memorial contributions suggested to Community Outreach of Gerald.
