John Clyde Murphy, 69, Owensville, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born Jan. 20, 1952, to Joseph P. Sr. and May (Kunz) Murphy in Hillsboro, Ill.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Branson, June 5, 1976, in Washington.
John enjoyed spending time with family, with friends at the local coffee shops, and doing electrical work. He retired from Bull Moose after 40 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and May; wife Shirley; brother Joseph P. Murphy; brother-in-law Ron Jennings; and niece Angela Jennings.
He is survived by children Gary Murphy and friend Dawn Roberts of Owensville, Marsha Murphy of St. James, John Mayfield and wife Donna of Springfield, Judy Kolb and friend Rick Schaffnit of Owensville, Jana Vandegriff and husband Aaron David of Ashland, and Bob Mayfield and wife Patty of Owensville; sister Mamie Jennings of Springfield, Ill.; grandchildren Aaron Vandegriff and wife Kylie, Kyle Kolb and wife Amanda, Jake Hinson, Michael Berry and wife Caryn, Tonya Jones and Trina Hoag; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 3, from 4-8 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel, Owensville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel with Pastor Shane Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in Countryside Memorial Gardens, Owensville.
