JV Dutchmen baseball to host 32nd annual tournament Saturday

Saturday morning, fans seeking a full day of baseball need not look any further than OHS Field and the 32nd Annual Owensville Junior Varsity Baseball Tournament.

Two years ago, it was a three-team tournament featuring Owensville, Sullivan and New Haven.

For this year, four teams will be competing including the host Dutchmen, Cuba’s Wildcats, Pacific’s Indians and the Gateway Legacy Christian Academy (GLCA) Lions out of St. Louis.

All six games throughout the day of the tournament will be seven innings or played under a 90-minute time limit. Any inning started will be finished even if the time limit has been reached.

Cuba’s Wildcats and the host Dutchmen will kick the tournament off at 8 a.m., followed by a 9:45 a.m., match up between Pacific and Cuba.

Pacific and Gateway Legacy will cap the morning portion of the tournament playing the third game of the day at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Afternoon action will kick off at 1:15 p.m., with GLCA facing Cuba followed by a 3 p.m., showdown between Owensville and Pacific.

In the final game of the tournament, the host Dutchmen will take on Gateway Legacy at 4:45 p.m.

Game times are approximate and could possibly change throughout the day.

If there’s a tie at the end of the tournament on records, three tie-breakers will be used.

Head-to-head competition will be the first tiebreaker followed by run differential with a maximum of seven runs per game counting towards the final number.

If those two do not determine a champion, the final tiebreaker will be fewest runs allowed.

Admission charges for the entire day will be $3 for adults and $2 for students with senior citizens and children under school age admitted free.

A concession stand will be open and operated throughout the tournament by the Dutchmen/Dutchgirl Athletic Booster Club
