Katelyn Landolt makes the grade

Seeing her junior campaign cut short due to a season-ending knee injury during the Comet Classic, Dutchgirl basketball player Katelyn Landolt did not let that stop her from working hard in the classroom and cheering her team on from the bench throughout the final month and a half of the season.

“Katelyn dealt with a lot of adversity this past basketball season and how she handled it says a lot about her character and who she is as a young person,” R-2 Activities Director Ryan Okenfuss said.

Meeting four requirements, Landolt was recognized as one of 82 players throughout Missouri honored on the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) Academic All-State Team for the 2019-20 school year.

In order to earn the honor, Landolt had to be a team member in good standing, possess outstanding moral character, hold at least a 3.25 grade-point average in addition to one or more of the following test scores:

• ACT score of 27 or above

• SAT score of 1920 or above

• PSAT score of 185 or above

While she may not have been a lights out scorer, Landolt gave everything she had regardless of whether it was in a game on the court of in the classroom off the court.

“She puts forward so much effort into everything she does on and off the floor,” Dutchgirl head basketball coach Ryan Flanagan said.

Her season-high in scoring came during the third-place game of the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic (PBHC) with eight points in a 42-37 victory over St. Francis Borgia that marked the first win over the Lady Knights in nearly two decades.

She equaled that mark against Iberia in the seventh-place game of the Comet Classic at Fatima High School in Westphalia.

On the glass, Landolt’s best game came in mid-December during a 47-44 victory over Cuba in which she pulled down six rebounds.

A week prior to their victory over Fatima in the consolation championship game of the Comet Classic, Landolt dished out a season-high three assists during a 52-30 loss to the Lady Comets.

Landolt also registered three steals against Columbia Hickman and Blair Oaks.
