Spending Saturday at the Montgomery County Fall Softball Classic covering Belle’s Lady Tigers for the Maries County Advocate (a sister publication of The Gasconade County Republican), yours truly saw the day turn adventuresome during Belle’s final contest of the day in the third-place game against the host Lady Wildcats.

My oldest son Braxton borrowed the keys to the Warden Publishing company vehicle looking for something out of it when he accidentally locked them in it.

Fortunately, I decided to leave the windows cracked a few inches to keep the Honda CR-V from turning into an oven later in the afternoon.

After using a tablet charger cord trying to fish the keys out to no avail, my youngest son Lane went to Braxton and mentioned the word stick.

A short time later, the boys found a stick that was just the right length in addition to having enough of a hook to fish the keys out of the back seat.

This probably saved anywhere from $50 to $100 that would’ve been spent using a locksmith.

After Belle’s 12-5 victory over Montgomery County giving them the third-place plaque, me and the boys were about to head back south on Highway 19 to Owensville after witnessing three softball games in the span of about six hours.

Upon inserting the keys into the ignition, the dreaded clicking noise happened instead of a normal engine starting.

A few minutes had passed until a Russellville Lady Indian softball fan saved the day with a pair of jumper cables to start the Honda and help us on our way back to Owensville. 

Fortunately, the car made it back to the land of the orange and black and it was discovered Monday that the battery was bad and needed replaced.
