While the above headline would be an interesting choice for a law firm, it is actually the last names of the three Owensville High School wrestlers who claimed Four Rivers Conference (FRC) individual titles during last Tuesday’s annual FRC Tournament held at OHS.

For Dutchgirl sophomore Emily Krause, she did not have to wrestle a single match to become Owensville’s first FRC champion in girls wrestling in school history.

That is because she was the only one that weighed in at 194 pounds.

Once she officially made weight, Krause forever etched herself into the Dutchgirl wrestling history books.

As the day wore on last Tuesday, Krause gained FRC championship company with a pair of Dutchmen winning FRC titles as well.

Roach’s road to a FRC title as a freshman started in round one against St. Clair’s Creek Hughes.

Pinning the Bulldog sophomore in 3:17, the Dutchmen freshman was halfway to a conference title with only three wrestlers competing at 120 pounds.

Two rounds later, Roach’s final match of the tournament came against Pacific senior Ethan Flaherty.

Also winning by fall in 3:12 over the Indian senior, Roach became Owensville’s second individual FRC champion on their home mats.

Next to take home a souvenir bracket and a FRC title was Dutchmen 285-pound sophomore Hayden Shoemaker.

Shoemaker’s first-round opponent was Pacific sophomore Nathaniel Knaff.

Midway through the second period, Shoemaker posted a win by fall in 3:22 over the Indian grappler.

Drawing byes the next two rounds, Shoemaker’s next action came in round four against Sullivan sophomore Cayden Thacker.

Pinning the Eagle grappler in 2:25, Shoemaker found himself one win away from a FRC title.

All that stood between Shoemaker and a first-place medal was St. James sophomore Tyler Skaggs.

Ending the match late in the first period, Shoemaker earned Owensville’s third FRC individual title of the tournament with a win by fall in 1:44 over his Tiger opponent.

Three more OHS wrestlers also earned All-FRC recognition by placing second in their respective weight classes.

At 113 pounds on the boys side, OHS junior Michael Martin and St. Clair junior Ryan Meek both entered the tournament undefeated.

Pinning St. James’ Blake Marlatt in 4:52 and Pacific’s Tyler Blake in :36, Martin and Meek clashed in the final round of the tournament with a FRC title on the line at 113 pounds.

Losing by technical fall in the second period, Martin settled for second place to Meek while still earning All-FRC honors.

To go along with Krause’s FRC title, a pair of Dutchgirl grapplers joined her in earning All-FRC honors as freshmen.

First on the mats for the Dutchgirls was freshman Elizabeth Adams.

Opening her tournament at 115 pounds in round three, Adams pinned Sullivan’s Karen Dietzler in 1:44 getting her off to a good start.

Round four saw Adams take on St. Clair’s Lili Vernon.

Pinning the Lady Bulldog junior in 1:44, Adams was now one win away from a FRC title with her last match coming against Union’s Lillie Zimmermann.

Tying the match on a late take down, Adams took the Wildcat junior to a one-minute overtime period.

Taken down in the extra session, Adams settled for second place at 115 pounds while still earning All-FRC accolades.

Another Dutchgirl freshman joined Adams on the podium earning All-FRC honors.

Freshman Bailee Dare hit the mats at 159 pounds against four other FRC wrestlers.

Opening her tournament against Union’s Gianna Schreck, Dare pinned the Lady Wildcat sophomore in 2:58 before drawing a bye in round two.

Round three saw Dare pin Pacific sophomore Scarlett Boyer in 3:34 moving her to 2-0 in the tournament.

Losing by technical fall to St. Clair’s Kaitlyn Janson in round four, Dare ended her tournament with a win by fall in 3:00 over Sullivan’s Ruby Daily.

Dare went on to place second at 159 pounds behind Janson with both wrestlers earning All-FRC honors.

Two more Dutchgirl grapplers placed third putting them on the podium but just shy of All-FRC recognition.

Josie Gerlemann settled for third place at 149 pounds after being pinned by Sullivan’s Maria Schatzl (1:03) and St. Clair’s Peyton Dunn (2:49).

Kelby Schoenfeld also placed third at 174 pounds in spite of being pinned by Sullivan’s Kloie Parks (1:07) and St. Clair’s Liberty Mckenzie (2:41).

McKenzy Echols rounded out Owensville’s contingency of Dutchgirl wrestlers placing fifth at 141 pounds.

Back on the boy’s side, four Dutchmen wrestlers posted third-place finishes making the podium but just missing All-FRC honors.

Gabe Soest opened his tournament at 152 pounds winning an 8-7 decision over St. James’ Dylan Schacht before ending his day with a win by fall in 3:04 over Pacific’s Austin Tennyson giving him third place with a 2-2 record.

Alan Kopp earned third place at 170 pounds pinning Pacific’s Cameron Reece in 2:33 before winning a 9-0 major decision over Austin Brock (Sullivan) and a 9-3 decision over St. Clair’s Lane Sohn.

Landon Kramme secured third place at 182 pounds winning a 9-7 decision over Union’s Lucas Hoekel in his final match of the day.

Brent Helmig also claimed third place at 220 pounds with a win by fall in :48 over Union’s Bradley Scott during his round five match.

Eli Wilson clinched fourth place at 195 pounds with a win by fall in :47 over St. Clair’s Zeke Bethel during their first-round match.

Making their FRC Tournament debuts, Dutchmen grapplers Aries Nicholas (132 pounds), Tyler Scheer (145 pounds) and Gerrit VanBerkel (160 pounds) all placed fifth in their respective weight classes.

Timothy Winterbauer rounded out the Dutchmen contingency of wrestlers at the FRC Tournament placing sixth at 138 pounds.
