Assistant Superintendent Dr. Staci Johnson at the Gasconade County R-2 School District said Tuesday morning that the last day of school has been moved back to May 20 and all built-in snow days and two AMI (alternative method of learning) days have been used.
“The last day of school has been moved because of that day we had to cancel for the threat because we can’t count it as a snow day or AMI day,” Johnson said.
She added that the school threat from Dec. 17 is still an ongoing investigation.
The board of education voted during the November 2021 meeting to use two of the four available AMI days to release students from school on Nov. 22-23 before Thanksgiving. Their reasoning was to help combat the spread of COVID-19 and clean the schools.
The four built-in forgiveness days were used for the Feb. 2-4 inclement weather.
“We used three days for the snow (Feb. 2-4) and the fourth for the snow in January, so we haven’t hit the time yet where we would have to start using our AMI,” Johnson said. “We have two days of AMI left so we would have to decide if there are more snow days if we will either add them to the end of the year or look at doing AMI. The only hard part there would be if we had to bring in staff. If the roads were too bad, we couldn’t do that.”
Johnson said she hopes they don’t have any more traditional snow days because the last day of school right now is on a Friday.
“If we had to add on, it would take us into the next week,” Johnson said. “Right now we have a nice stop date on a Friday.”
The snow storm from last week caused several events to need to be canceled, including Winter Homecoming for basketball.
“Winter Homecoming has been rescheduled to Feb. 18 and the Math and Science Scholarship Presentation has been rescheduled to Feb. 16 — which is also Senior Night,” Johnson said.
