Law enforcement clears R-2 campuses, policy meeting held

Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Staci Johnson, along with local, county, and state law enforcement did a sweep of the Gasconade County R-2 School District this morning before moving to a closed-door policy meeting with agency officials.

“We are working with law enforcement because these threats are not taken lightly in our district,” Hardy said. “We do understand that there could be legal action connected to the threat to the school district.”

Hardy said the schools were cleared and no one but maintenance and building administrators will be allowed in for the time being. Students who have sports activities tonight will need to request their coaches retrieve their equipment from the locker rooms.

Additionally, the Dutchmen girls basketball game is still scheduled for this evening in Sullivan.
“Depending on what the climate is with Tik Tok and the stuff that is going on we will see what happens in Sullivan today,” Hardy said.

A district official will meet the bus upon their return to ensure parents, students and staff leave the school parking lot in a timely manner without entering buildings.

“That’s the part we are going to start planning for now since we are working on our crisis plan and that goes with board policy,” Hardy said after giving law enforcement and building administrators an update. “We will close the door, sit down and talk through this, talk through our next steps as far as the investigation procedure goes. What you need from us, we are cooperating.”

Canceled events tonight and Saturday include two groups of Owensville Elementary school Choirs that were scheduled to perform at the Owensville Community Theater play production, but due to the threats to the school, will not be participating.
At this time the play production is still scheduled to be staged.
