Leander Falter, 89, Jefferson City, passed away March 15, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City.
He was born April 10, 1935, to the late Joseph Fritz and Anna Josephine (Bax) Falter in Koeltztown.
He attended Catholic school in his hometown and went on to serve in the U. S. Army for two years, followed by six years in the Army Reserves, earning an honorable discharge.
Leander was united in marriage to Regina Falter in May 1963. She preceded him in death in September of 1965. He later married Mary Teresa Rehagen in May of 1968.
Leander worked for Bersted and McGraw-Edison, Shopsmith, and Jefferson City Manufacturing from 1958 until his retirement in 1997.
He was a longtime member of Saint Joseph Parish in Westphalia and dedicated much of his life to his community. Leander served on the Board of Directors for the local water district for 18 years and was involved with the fire department, West Senior Complex, Parish Council, and the Lions Club as a member serving on various committees since 1969. Leander also received the Anton Johannesmeyer and Al Schwartz awards for his community service. Additionally, he was a life member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and a member of the American Legion.
Leander was passionate about hobbies such as woodworking, fishing, hunting, reading, solving Sudoku puzzles and bingo. He was known as a regular caller for bingo at McDonald’s in Linn.
Leander was preceded in death by first wife, Regina; parents, Joseph and Anna; brothers, Henry Falter, Emil Falter, Lawrence Falter and Jerome Falter and wife Ann; and sisters, Martha Hobbs and Theresa Kloeppel.
He is survived by wife, Mary; and brother, Norbert Falter and wife Anne.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m., (today),Wednesday, March 19 and from 9 until 10 a.m., Thursday, March 20, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with Rev. Dylan Schrader officiating.
Memorial contributions suggested to Masses or St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Westphalia.
