Leroy Carl Diekmann, 88, of Hermann, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, at Hermann Area District Hospital, Hermann.

He was born in Stony Hill, Jan. 3, 1935, the son of the late Charles and Elsie (Rohlfing) Diekmann.

He was united in marriage to Dolores Koester, Dec. 26, 1955, in Stony Hill. Dolores preceded him in death on April 4, 2015.

Leroy taught his family a very strong work ethic. His working career started at age 14 helping area farmers. He started his career as an electrician under the mentorship of Ralph Grannemann at Grannemann Electric. When Ralph passed away, Leroy started his own electrical business called Diekmann Electric which he worked at his entire life. In addition to being an electrician, Leroy was also a farmer and raised hogs, cattle, hay and grain crops.

Leroy was a member of St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill. He was on the Gasconade County Fair Board and served as the fair electrician for many years. He was on the Gasconade County Soil and Water Conservation Board, where he served as chairman for many years and was also a board member of Drake Beemont Mutual Insurance Company.

In his free time Leroy enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening and baking cookies to give away to others. Leroy didn’t know a stranger, he enjoyed making conversation with people. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Elsie; wife, Dolores; and grandson, Christopher Doerr.

Leroy is survived by four daughters, Connie Doerr and husband Jeffery, Ruth Vance and husband Norman and Denise Epple and husband Dennis all of Hermann, and Sharon Gambill of Washington; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Doerr and wife Lori of Gerald, Craig Doerr of Owensville,  Peter Vance and wife Samantha of Eau Claire, Wis., Kayla Martin and husband Andrew of Neillsville, Wis., Matthew Vance and wife Cheyanne of Stoughton, Wis., Amanda Koelling of Hermann, David Biles of Owensville, Ryan Biles of Darby, Mont., and Blake Weber of San Diego, Calif.; and nine great-grandchildren, Chayse and Christian Doerr, Kinsey, Madison and Raegan Doerr, Greyson Doerr, Edward and Leroy Martin and Kylee Koelling.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22, at St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill, with Rev. Tom Lloyd officiating. Burial was at St. James Cemetery, Stony Hill.

Memorials may be given to St. James Cemetery, Owensville Senior Center or New Haven Senior Center.
