LeRoy Paul Plocinski, 83, Palmyra, formerly of Owensville, died Thursday, March 4, 2021, at University Hospital in Columbia.
He was born Oct. 1, 1937 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Roman and Lillian (Bielinski) Plocinski. He graduated from Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago in 1955.
He married Joan Anderjeski, Oct. 17, 1959, in Melrose Park, Ill. She preceded him in death, March 7, 2017. It was through Joan’s family in Centralia, Ill., that the city boy was introduced to rural life and started his dream of owning his own farm.
LeRoy worked as a letter carrier in Glen Ellyn, Ill., for 25 years. He then moved to Owensville and was a hog farmer for many years. In later years he was a truck driver before retiring and moving to Palmyra in 2015.
LeRoy’s greatest joys were his family and being on his farm. He also loved to tinker with his trains and was an avid reader.
LeRoy is survived by his children, Laura (Larry) Ostermueller of Quincy, Ill., Michael Plocinski of Algonquin Ill., Dr. Constance Kelley of San Angelo, Texas, and Steven Plocinski of Owensville; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Gish, Brian (Kelsey) Plocinski, Lisa (Derrick) Wade, Lawrence Ostermueller Jr. and Nicholas and Amy Plocinski; five great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Shirley) Plocinski; a sister, Beverly Welling; and several nieces and nephews also.
In addition to his wife, LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, March 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Jerry Kaimann officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Palmyra.
Pallbearers were Larry Ostermueller, Gene Kelley, Brian Plocinski, Lawrence Ostermueller, Ryan Gish and Derrick Wade.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The family is being served by Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
