Dr. Chuck Garner, superintendent of the Gasconade County R-2 School District on Monday evening released a letter being sent to all families with children in the Owensville and Gerald schools.
Included was a survey for parents or guardians wishing to arrange for free breakfasts and/or lunches for students during this extended break. The meal program is scheduled to begin Monday, March 23.
“This would be a grab-n-go procedure from Owensville High School or Gerald Elementary School cafeterias,” Garner noted.
The R-2 Board of Education met Monday in their regularly scheduled monthly meeting and voted to cancel class through April 3. See related story on page 1.
The letter begins: Dear Gasconade County Families and Staff,
As our local, national, and international communities continue to assess the spread of COVID-19, the Gasconade County R-2 School District will be closed beginning Wednesday, March 18, through April 3, 2020. All school activities will be suspended during this time, as well. Classes will be held Tuesday, March 17, as we continue to work with students to ensure they have learning opportunities during this unscheduled interruption. We receive ongoing guidance from the local and state health departments, the State Department of Education, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Our scheduled Spring Break is Wednesday, March 18 through Friday, March 20. So, this would extend the break through Friday, April 3, 2020, during which time we will continue to monitor the situation.
All school activities will be suspended at this time. At this current time classes are scheduled to resume on Monday, April 6, 2020. In addition, school would be in session Friday, April 10 and Monday, April 13, 2020.
Communication will continue to be made through our normal communication channels. This will include additional closures, meal service, instructional programing, etc. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this ever-changing situation together. Your teamwork is appreciated.
Superintendent Dr. Chuck Garner, Ed.D.
