Lorene Joan Tappmeyer, 87, Owensville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, at Gasconade Manor in Owensville.
She was born Aug. 7, 1933, to August and Alma (Zinn) Tappmeyer, in Owensville.
Lorene was a member of Christ Community Church in Owensville. She was Valedictorian of her class of 1951 at Owensville High School and then attended Central Methodist University. She worked in Columbia at MFA and then worked for the University of Missouri Extension Services in Owensville for 37 years. She was a devoted sports fan, especially St. Louis Cardinal baseball and Mizzou basketball and football. She enjoyed playing softball and was an excellent pitcher. Lorene played the piano and organ at the First Presbyterian Church in Owensville for many years and loved gospel music. She also loved walking daily in the city park.
She was preceded in death by parents, August and Alma; sister-in-law, Patricia “Patti Jo” Tappmeyer; and nephew, Jonathan Tappmeyer.
She is survived by brothers, Harlan Tappmeyer of Des Peres and Roger Tappmeyer of Owensville; and niece, Jana Tappmeyer of Kirkwood. She was also dearly loved by cousins and friends. Lorene’s kind and sweet spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be (today) Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 9-11 a.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville with funeral services following with Pastor Shane Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in Owensville City Cemetery. Family chooses masks be worn for the visitation and service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Christ Community Church, Owensville.
