Lowell Baumbach

Lowell Everett Baumbach, 87, Owensville, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019, at Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia.

He was born May 10, 1932, to Oswald and Ruby (Garrett) Baumbach, in St. Louis.

He was united in marriage to Louise Boyd, April 23, 1955, in St. Louis.

Lowell served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and later the U.S. Army from 1953-55 during the Korean War. He worked as automotive mechanic at various places including Gasconade County R-II School District’s bus barn and several drag strips and drag races.

He enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team, watching high school baseball games and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and most of all playing bottle caps and pitching horseshoes. He pitched horseshoes in area fairs until his health kept him from playing. He was most grateful that his whole family including his son, son-in-law and grandchildren pitched horseshoes together. He was known by many as Grandpa or Pop.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ozzie and Ruby; son, Ricky Baumbach in infancy; brother, Floyd Baumbach; and grandson, William “Scooter” Gauer.

He is survived by wife, Mary; daughters, Vickey Rose and husband Robert of New Florence and Rebecca Joers and husband Ricky of Gerald; son, Douglas Baumbach and wife Brenda of Cuba; sister, Vivian “Susie” Farris of Pevely; seven sisters-in-law; grandchildren, Khrystal (Gauer) Hagood, Tonya Bergesch, Joshua Joers, Amanda Joers, Courtney Baumbach, Ashley (Baumbach) Baldwin, Christopher Baumbach, Drew Baumbach, Jeneen (Rose) Osborne and Valerie Rose; and 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Funeral services are (today) Wednesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Owensville, with Rev. Kevin Sullivan and Bro. Jack Hembree officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery, St. Louis, with full military honors.
