Maramec Spring Park announces date for Old Iron Works Festival

Posted

The rich history of Missouri’s iron industry will come alive once again at Maramec Spring Park during the 46th Annual Old Iron Works Festival being held on October 11. This much-anticipated celebration invites families, history enthusiasts, and visitors of all ages to step back in time and experience life as it was in the 1800s.

The Old Iron Works Festival pays tribute to the historic Maramec Iron Works, one of the first successful iron works west of the Mississippi. Throughout the weekend, guests can explore hands-on demonstrations, artisan crafts, music, and traditional skills that reflect the ingenuity and resilience of the early Ozark settlers.

Highlights of the festival include:

• Live Demonstrations: Blacksmithing, wood carving, weaving, soap-making, and other heritage crafts.

• Music & Entertainment: Enjoy live performances from Wheelhouse Rousters, Dixie Union, and Barnum Jack, along with special shows by Professor Farquar and Polecat Annie. This year will also feature a local talent showcase, giving area performers the opportunity to share their music and storytelling traditions on stage.

• Local Food & Vendors: Enjoy regional favorites and browse handmade goods from talented artisans.

“Maramec Spring Park is honored to continue the tradition of the Old Iron Works Festival for the 46th year,” said Wesley Swee, Director of The James Foundation. “It’s a chance for families to connect with Missouri’s history, enjoy the beauty of the park, and celebrate the community spirit that makes this event so special.”

The Old Iron Works Festival gate fee is $20 per vehicle. Gates open at 6:30 a.m. The festival begins at 10 a.m. with activities running until 5 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring comfortable walking shoes, as demonstrations are spread throughout the historic park grounds.
