Margery Eloise (Pierce) Blackwell, 93, Lawrenceville, Ga., formerly of Owensville, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022, at the Sheridan at Eastside in Snellville, Ga.
She was born Aug. 29, 1928, the daughter of Eli Elton Pierce and Orpha (Reed) Pierce in Bland.
She was united in marriage to Lewis B. Blackwell, Dec. 24, 1947, in St. James.
In 1954, Lewis graduated from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine – with Marge’s assistance and support. After graduation, they moved to Owensville to start a veterinary practice that served Owensville and its surrounding communities for almost 40 years.
During those years, Margery served as administrator and office manager for the practice while also raising three children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bland, served as an officer in the Owensville PTA, and was active in several area horse show associations. She supported her family through years of horse shows, motor sports and school activities while also giving long hours of dedicated service to the community.
In October 2011, she moved to Lawrenceville, Ga., to live with her daughter, Denise, and her family.
She was preceded in death by husband Lewis B. “Doc” Blackwell; son Dr. Ronald B. Blackwell; parents Eli and Orpha Pierce; brothers Boyd Pierce, Roe Pierce and Eli Pierce Jr.; and sister Lillian Pierce Schlottach.
She is survived by son Randy Blackwell and Lisa King of Washington; daughter Denise Blackwell Jennings and her husband Mark of Lawrenceville, Ga.; granddaughter Krista Jennings Langford and her husband Jacob of Fort Worth, Texas; grandson Matthew Jennings and his wife Hannah of Snellville, Ga.; great-granddaughter Ella Lynn Jennings of Snellville, Ga.; sister Betty Blackwell of Owensville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 20, from noon–2 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, Owensville. Her Celebration of Life service will begin at 2 p.m. with Kevin Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Countryside Memorial Gardens, Owensville.
