Belle election Results
Unofficial results on April 4 revealed the city of Belle has a new marshal and Ward 1 alderman while Prop. 1 — making the marshal’s position appointed versus elected — failed by 42 votes.
Terry Connors, owner of Connors Country Lodge Belle, received 59 votes in both wards.
Barbara S. Haworth won the alderman Ward 1 race against incumbent Frederick Anthony Bethmann Jr. in for the Belle Board of Aldermen by five votes. She will serve the remaining one-year term.
Prop. 1 failed in Maries County by 43 votes, and passed in Osage County by one vote but ultimately failed to pass.
This is an unofficial count and not yet final, according to the Maries and Osage county clerks.
Maries R-1 School Board Election results
The Maries R-1 School District will have a new member when it meets next month as Kacie James has won a position on the school board.
At the Municipal Election on April 5, James received 181 votes (27.93 percent), finishing second in the three-person contest for the two open three-year term positions on the school board.
Incumbent member David Long won the most votes in the contest, with 224 votes or 34.57 percent. Incumbent Joseph Barnhart was close on the heels of James with 170 or 26.23 percent votes. Also running unopposed for the one-year term position on the R-1 board was Matthew Novak, who received 257 votes, or 79.32 percent.
County Clerk Rhonda Rodgers reported a very smooth election day. She predicted a Maries County election turnout of 9.73 percent for Tuesday's election. According to numbers on the unofficial results printout, 524 of the county's voters 4,663 voters made the trip to the polls for a voter turnout of 11.24 percent.
Bland
Bland welcomes new mayor, aldermen
The city of Bland has a new mayor and aldermen, beating out both incumbents.
Running against former mayor Lee Medlock who stepped down from the position in February, Kenny Sulliger ran as a declared write-in candidate and received 26 votes against Medlock’s 23 votes.
Incumbent Jane Vandegriffe ran against declared candidate Matthew Dittman and declared write-in candidate Marrilee Spurgeon. Dittman received 41 votes, followed by Spurgeon with 26 votes, beating out Vandegriffe’s 23 votes.
The city was also asking for a renewal on their park tax with Proposition 1 — renewing the parks sales tax of one-half of one percent, for the next 10 years for the purpose of funding local parks — passed 46 to 16 votes.
