Marjorie Marie Altemeyer, 92, Gerald, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at Gasconade Manor Nursing Home, in Owensville.
She was born Nov. 1, 1928, to Henry William and Nora Louise (Brauks) Merk, in Gerald.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Altemeyer, June 7, 1947, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald.
Marjorie was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Church in Gerald. She had cooked at Gerald Elementary School for 34 years. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan for many years. Her favorite hobby was attending her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s ballgames. She and her husband didn’t miss games even at times going in different directions, if they were on the same night. Even though she didn’t swim, some of her favorite times were at The Lake of the Ozarks where they would pack up the kids and head to Echo Valley every other weekend throughout the summers for many years. Later, when the grandchildren arrived, Ozark Village Resort was the summer family meeting place to create more fun memories. Many family weekends were also enjoyed at Peaceful Valley Lake with two sons living there. She loved to fish since her youth, a love she shared with her dad. Many hours were spent in her later years with a pole in her hand at her daughter and son-in-law’s pond. The most important job to her was being a good mom, grandma and great-grandma and she was a champ at that.
She was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Nora; husband, Floyd; son, Robert Altemeyer; brothers, Melbourne and Ralph Merk; sister, Mary Wardensky; brothers-in-law, Joe Wardensky, Dave Selbert, Ed Lauer, Vic Altemeyer and Lee Stark; and sisters-in-law, Donna Merk, Florence Merk, Laura Selbert, Grace Altemeyer and Bonnie Stark.
She is survived by children, Rick Altemeyer and wife Cheryl and Roger Altemeyer and wife Lois, all of Owensville, and Rea Turnbough and husband Kent of Rosebud; daughter-in-law, Sue Altemeyer of Gerald; sister-in-law, Ella Mae Lauer of Rockledge, Fla.; grandchildren, Kari Evans and husband Scott, Ryan Altemeyer and wife Aleisha, Tandy Vandegriffe and husband Rich, Kris Altemeyer and wife Anita, Trent Turnbough and wife Wendy, Coy Altemeyer, Nick Altemeyer, Lana Koelling and husband Nate and Travis Turnbough; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Paige, Olivia, Lexi, Logan, Layne, Mya, Allison, Parker, Max, Leo, Peyton, Kolt, Kade and Luke; and nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 27, at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville with Pastor Glenn Hollander officiating. Burial was in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Gerald.
Memorials requested to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery.
