Marsha Ann Meyer, 72, Meta, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City surrounded by her family.

She was born Jan. 13, 1950, to the late Nelson Herman Otto, Sr. and Anna Marie (Zeilman) in Jefferson City.

She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Meyer March 13, 1971, in Rich Fountain.

After graduation, Marsha was employed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol until after she married and moved to Killeen, Texas to start their new adventures. Upon completion of Bob’s military service, they returned to Missouri and bought a farm in Meta, where she helped on the family hog farm while raising her four children. Marsha later worked as a secretary for the Diocese of Jefferson City, Patio Chef and the Department of Public Safety as well as working as a First Aid and CPR instructor for Capital Region Medical Center.

She was an active member of the Meta community where she, along with her husband Bob, were founding members of the COMM-Unity Ambulance Service where she took on many roles including having served as a volunteer EMT/First Responder, she taught many first responder, EMT, and CPR classes and served on the COMM-Unity board. Marsha was also a member of St. Cecilia Parish where she served on the cemetery committee and spent many years as a CCD religion teacher.

She loved traveling with friends which in later years mostly consisted of trips to “Downstream.” When she wasn’t traveling, Marsha could always be heard cheering for her grandkids at their many sporting events. She had a love for the holidays and made each one special for her family. Marsha loved decorating trees on Christmas Eve, dyeing her special Easter eggs, and especially cherished building her Christmas Village each year with her grandchildren. She always looked forward to these days along with her “special days” with each of the grandkids and their “Condo week” at the Lake.

Marsha was preceded in death by parents, Nelson and Anna Otto; and in-laws, Leo and Sarah Meyer.

She is survived by husband, Bob; sons, Mike Meyer and wife Tiffani of St. Thomas and Jon Meyer and friend Mike Nichols of Columbia; daughters, Michelle Derkum and husband Tony and Angel Backes and husband Brad, all of Meta; grandchildren, Sydney and Elena Meyer, Nick Meyer, Will, Melina and Natalee Derkum and Taylor, Sarah and Lizzy Backes; brothers, Dale Otto and wife Diana, Duane Otto and Nelson Otto, Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, March 21, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta with Fr. Leonard Mukiibi officiating. Interment was in St. Cecilia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to the St. Cecilia Cemetery Fund.
