Mary Alverta Dishman, 78, Marshfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at her residence.

She was born July 8, 1942, to William “Bill” and Jessie (Young) McNish, in Kellyville, Okla.

She was united in marriage to James Richard “J.R.” Dishman, Feb. 13, 1960, in Marshfield.

Alverta attended school in Fordland and earned her GED and EMT certification. As a teenager, she worked at Fisher Hi-boy Restaurant in Springfield. She worked at Plessy-Tyler Coupling Corporation in Marshfield for 32 years prior to retirement. She later worked at Dancy’s Restaurant in Marshfield as a hostess. Along with husband, J.R., she purchased a farm outside of Elkland in 1960. Alverta was a member of Mission Chapel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation bible school. After moving to Marshfield in 1972, she joined First Baptist Church of Marshfield, where she taught Sunday school for over 25 years and was involved in other ministries including choir, hand bell choir and mission trips as well as serving as wedding coordinator and association messenger. Alverta and J.R. were members of Missourian on Missions, building churches throughout the U.S. She was an active member of Parents as Teachers Association and was a 4-H Leader.

She was preceded in death by parents, Bill and Jessie; husband, J.R.; brother, William McNish; sister, Betty Jo Lewis; brothers-in-law, Sherman Clair, Max Dishman, Chuck Dishman and Leland Lewis; and sister-in-law, Peggy Dishman.

She is survived by daughters, Pam Thomas and husband Mike of Linn and Rhonda Whitlock and husband Doug of Marshfield; son, Ken Dishman of Bland; brothers, Darrell McNish and wife Vonna of Fordland and Mike McNish and wife Debbie of Seymour; sisters, Wanda Mondy and husband Bob of Brookline, Kay Stoll and husband Sam of Fordland and Connie Gann and husband Mark of Rogersville; sisters-in-law, Sandra McNish of Buffalo, Sue Clair of Marshfield and Mary Ann Hill and husband Wayne of Marshfield; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 19, at First Baptist Church in Marshfield with Rev. J.C. Beckner officiating. Interment followed in Marshfield City Cemetery. Memorial contributions suggested to First Baptist Church of Marshfield or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
