Mary Catheran “Katie” Martin, 78, Martinsburg, formerly of New Florence and Owensville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, at the Boone Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.
Mary Catheran “Katie” Martin was born Sept. 18, 1942 at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, to Hiram Clay Martin, Jr. and Della Catheran Larkin Martin. Katie joined church at a young age and was active in the local church of the community where she lived. She graduated from Montgomery County R-2 High School and worked at Walmart for over 30 years. Katie was a department manager and also a member of the White Tornadoes where she went to Great Britain and transformed their stores into Walmart stores. Katie traveled extensively throughout North American continent and part of Great Britain. Katie was married to Norman Schraer and to this union two sons were born; she then married Gene Jeffrey and to this union she had a daughter and a son; then married David Thorne and then married Larry Joe Begeman and were married for over 35 wonderful years. She touched many people’s lives in her travels and all who met her never forgot her and corresponded with them throughout the years. She never met a stranger, lived life to the fullest and had a great heart for helping people. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
Katie is survived by her husband, Larry Joe Begeman of Martinsburg; children: Randal Wayne Schraer of New Bloomfield; Monte Clay Schraer Jeffrey and wife, Rhonda, of Union; Michelle Paneitz and husband, Bruce, of Owensville; Shannon Jeffrey and wife, Angela, of Booneville; Rena Thurman and husband, Randy, of Hermann; and Shelly Rios and husband, Rogelio of Montgomery City; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Hiram Clay Martin III and wife, Cheryl of Olivette; brother-in-law, Lenny Jones of Robertsville; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram Clay Martin Jr. and Della Catheran Larkin Martin, son, Scott Begeman, and sister, Barbara Jones.
Due to Covid the family has chosen a private service that will be held at the Schlanker Funeral Home Saturday, Dec. 12, with Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. The family would like to give everyone that has known Katie the opportunity to be able to express what she meant to you or how she touched your life, a favorite memory, funny story or crazy antic.
