Melvin E. Berkemeyer, 84, Hermann, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, at his home.
He was born April 25, 1936, in Owensville, the son of the late Louis and Lena (Huebner) Berkemeyer. He was confirmed at Bethel Presbyterian Church at Bay, Missouri.
Melvin graduated Owensville High School in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1959 and served until 1961.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Koch, June 5, 1965, at Zion-St. Paul United Church of Christ (UCC) in Bay.
Melvin was a member of St. Paul UCC, Hermann, where he had served on the council. After returning from the service Melvin worked for Hermann Farm Service, driving a mobile feed grinder. In 1966 he started a 35-year career with Kellwood and American Recreational Products, retiring in 2001.
Melvin was known by his family to be able to fix anything from overhauling an engine to a broken necklace. Melvin was a family man and would do anything for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lena; a brother, Marvin Berkemeyer; and a nephew, Steven Koch.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Berkemeyer, of the home; a daughter, Renee Barton and husband Dustin of Hermann; and by three grandsons, Dillon Stiers and Collin and Evan Marinaccio, all of Hermann.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 21, at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann with Rev. Kurt Schaller Blaufuss officiating. Burial was at Zion Cemetery, Bay. Memorial contributions suggested to Zion Cemetery or St. Paul U.C.C.
