Monday snowfall causes cancellations for R-2 schools

When two passenger vehicles became snarled mid-afternoon Monday on a snow-slickened Krausetown Road, one going up the hill, the other one going down, both stopped causing an R-2 bus going up hill to come to a halt.

Owensville fire volunteers responding to the incident approached from both directions. An ambulance attempting to get to the scene stopped short, slightly uphill from the saddle of the hillside. The bus, being driven by Tinya McClure, did not hit anything but also became stranded until salt could be spread by Owensville firemen and city workers could arrive to cinder and salt the hill.

Owensville Area Ambulance District personnel also responded but were blocked from the hill crest by snarled traffic. They walked up to help assess the stranded motorist. No injuries were reported by city police who were also on the scene.

Stephanie Sullentrup, a teacher at Owensville Elementary School, arrived and walked several younger students to their homes nearby.

R-2 Superintendent Dr. Chuck Garner, who was on the scene, said several buses became stuck in similar situations across the area behind other motorists attempting to climb hills.
