A man driving a 2005 Yukon Denali along the Rock Island rail bed near Route Y without running lights at 10:17 p.m. May 11 was arrested by Owensville police and later charged with felony resisting arrest.

Patrolman Josh Smith eventually stopped Thomas Eric Hyde after he fled at a high rate of speed, nearly striking the patrol car as he drover across several city streets.

Hyde went into a ditch going around the patrol car, losing additional items, according to City Marshal Robert Rickerd. Hyde turned west onto Highway 28 into a parking lot before turning eastbound on Highway 28. Hyde then turned onto Third Street, stopping in the middle of the street, and screamed profanities at police.

Hyde arrived at his residence but then drove off again almost striking another policeman. Hyde then parked on the side of his house and was placed under arrest without further incident. Hyde was charged May 12 with felony resisting arrest, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, careless and imprudent driving, and trespassing. Bond was set at $7,500.
