Det. Sgt. Mason Griffith was killed while on duty with the Hermann Police Department Sunday night. Details of the incident can be found elsewhere in this issue.
Gerald Police Chief Jim Helton sums up the feeling of most of the community by saying simply, “The world is a lesser place without Mason Griffith in it.”
Griffith was hired by the Gerald Police Department as a reserve officer while still attending the police academy in October 2014. He continued in that capacity until being hired as a full-time officer July 2011 through September 2013. He returned to reserve status until November 2013. He served as a lieutenant in the department from September 2016 to September 2017.
While serving in Gerald, Griffith left a legacy of great policing which will long be remembered.
