Neill gets nod as R-1 chief; Anderson to Washington

HERMANN — Gasconade County R-1 School District's new top administrator is making a move up the education administration ladder. Geoff Neill, who last week got the nod to succeed Scott Smith, will be helming the R-1 District after spending three years as superintendent of Sturgeon School District.

Sturgeon is located north of Columbia.

Neill's selection was announced in a release by R-1 officials.

Neill on July 1 will succeed Scott, who is leaving after three years at R-1 to be the superintendent of the Jackson School District, which has an enrollment of more than 5,000 students. Scott came to R-1 after serving as assistant superintendent of West Plains School District in southern Missouri.

Scott succeeded Tracy Hankins, who resigned after three years in the superintendent’s post. She came to Hermann from a small district in southwest Missouri.

Another major change in personnel announced by R-1 involves the departure of longtime educator and administrator Maranda Anderson. Currently the director of curriculum, Anderson has been named assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment in the Washington School District, effective July 1.

Anderson, wife of R-1 Activities Director Todd Anderson, has spent more than 20 years in the R-1 District  — first as a classroom teacher for 17 years and then as an administrator the past six years.
