A new semi-circular driveway will provide many benefits to students and parents at Gerald Elementary
School.
Currently, parents drop students off at the west entrance of the building in the parking lot. Busses drop students at the east entrance on Grandview Ave. Parents and busses also drop off pre-school students on the east side. This can lead to confusion and crowding.
With the new driveway, busses will enter from a new entrance off W. Fitzgerald Ave. and drop students off at the north entrance in the middle of the building. This will leave the east side more open for pre-school drop offs. Busses can then continue on to Grandview Ave. where they can turn right, as they do now, or turn left to get back on the highway for routes west of the school.
Principal Jared Tharp says the new driveway will be for busses only, but could provide additional parking for events held after school hours.
Another entrance is also being made to the existing parking lot.
