New Friendship Baptist Church offers sanctuary for prayer on Saturday mornings

To the Editor:

Greetings.

The teachers, or more accurately anyone in the education field, healthcare, first responders, military and every occupation you can think of, have been on the front line of a world gone astray.

And, needless to say, especially our own country, the world has changed dramatically in the last few years, so much that most people would agree that it is almost unrecognizable.

Covid took us by surprise and is still keeping us held hostage in our own homes while people are still being infected regardless of being vaccinated or not. The third world war seems to be on the horizon between Ukraine and Russia with war crimes being committed before our very eyes, and the world watches and does nothing.

There are children around the world that will go to sleep tonight hungry and wake up without the answer of whether they will eat or not, a question we take for granted here in the abundance of the USA.

Abundance today yes, lack of same tomorrow, could be.

Gas prices are going to make the abundance we have enjoyed and “under-appreciated” a phrase of the past, like for instance our shelves that were bare in the not to distant past, empty of necessities.

Cancer or other debilitating diseases seem to be effecting families all across the nation. School shootings, drug usage, alcoholism, racism, violence of all kinds and the downfall of the American family almost seem to be acceptable if it is not directly affecting your personal life or family.

The intensified weather patterns have destroyed lives, towns, houses and businesses throughout the country with fires, tornadoes and flooding to name a few catastrophes that have happened recently.

These are just a few of the attacks that our country has been involved in and will continue for the foreseeable future.

The problems do not go away on their own, nor do they diminish in severity or frequency when ignored. That is the reason that our church, New Friendship Baptist Church, is offering a time of prayer to all that would like to lift up their families, children, grandchildren, schools, workplaces, spouses, our towns, counties, country, neighbors, other countries.

And the list goes on and on, never ending of who — or what — we can, and should, pray for.

We offer our building and our Prayer Warriors to give you comfort in a time, that to a lot, seems hopeless.

But, to the God we serve, this is a time of intervention to stand in the gap for those who cannot stand on their own, to be the voice of the orphan, to aid the widows, help the broken hearted to find hope, hope in the Lord Jesus for He is still on the throne and waits for us to call out to Him.

Prayer time will be held every Saturday from 9  to 10:30 a.m. and our church is located 4-1/2 miles south of Gerald off of Route H (left on Red Oak then 1 mile on the left atop a hill).

We ask nothing in return, just to be a part of your prayer life for one day or many, not to take you away from your own church, but to assist in your walk with Jesus, or to answer questions you may have about him.

Thank you for reading this invitation, and please tell someone you think would like to know about it, this is for everyone, non-denominational, non judgmental, just held in love as Christ would lead us.

In his service,

Dennis Vickers, Pastor
