Get ready.
There are a few events coming up I wanted you to know about.
January 4th, 2023, is the first day of the 102nd Legislative session. It begins at noon with the swearing in of the legislators and the formal election of officers. There is limited seating for this activity so please reach out to our office for more information.
On the evening of first day of session, a formal evening gala is planned at the Capitol. During this Legislative Ball members of the general assembly and other state officials are introduced and descend the Governor’s Staircase into the first-floor rotunda of the Missouri State Capitol. This tradition of the General Assembly is known as the “Grand March.”
Members and the general public are invited and can stay to enjoy an evening of dancing in the Capitol rotunda. Attire for the event is black-tie optional. Many offices will host a reception of assorted foods and beverages.
If you are in Jefferson City the morning after the Legislative Ball, the Governor hosts an annual prayer breakfast. I have a couple of extra tickets at our table so don’t hesitate to contact Jill Ryals, our legislative assistant, if you would like to attend.
The event I am most looking forward to is the Governor’s State of the State address.
On January 18th, 2023, Governor Mike Parson will detail his Fiscal Year 2024 budget proposal. The House and the Senate, State Officials, and the Justices of the Supreme Courts will gather in the House Chambers.
There will be some limited gallery seating and all of the speech will be broadcast on Facebook Live.
But, before the politics begin, take the time to enjoy the Holiday Season.
Give thanks for your many blessings.
Share the joy and the love of the season.
Make the best use of every moment.
Be cheerful and strive to be happy.
The New Year will come soon enough.
Merry Christmas from our home to yours.
