A week removed from Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville eighth-grade Dutchgirl volleyball team bringing home tournament championship hardware from Bourbon, Kari Nolting’s seventh-grade Dutchgirls looked to duplicate the feat over the weekend at the Steelville 7th Grade Girls Volleyball Tournament.

Starting a long day of volleyball Saturday, Owensville took on Viburnum’s Lady Blue Jays in the first of three pool matches at Steelville High School.

Sweeping their opponents out of the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) in two sets 25-10 and 25-8, the Dutchgirls got off to a good start in pool B.

Getting a match off, Owensville then took on St. James’ Lady Tigers for the second time in a 22-hour span.

Sweeping the Lady Tigers Friday in front of the Owensville Middle School student body, Nolting’s Dutchgirls did it again at Steelville winning both sets 25-12 and 25-15 moving that much closer to bracket play in Crawford County.

Capping pool play, Owensville started the afternoon portion of their day of volleyball in Steelville facing Linn’s Lady Wildcats.

Taking both sets from their Osage County opponents 25-16 and 25-13, Nolting’s Dutchgirls won Pool B to advance to bracket play in one semifinal against Salem’s Lady Tigers.

Steelville and St. James faced off in the other semifinal.

Following Steelville’s sweep of Salem in the first semifinal, Owensville kept the two-set trend going with a sweep of Salem 25-15 and 25-18 to advance to the championship match against the host Lady Cardinals.

Looking to keep their trend of two-set matches going, the Dutchgirls accomplished just that defeating the host Lady Cardinals by scores of 25-10 and 25-16.

Monday night, Nolting’s Dutchgirls ventured back into Crawford County to face Bourbon’s Lady Warhawks.

Keeping their long winning streak going, Owensville swept the host Lady Warhawks in two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-12.

Looking to complete the doubleheader sweep in Bourbon, Ridenhour’s eighth-grade Dutchgirls looked to keep the momentum of their three-set win over St. James Friday going into Monday.

Needing just two sets in Bourbon, Ridenhour’s Dutchgirls defeated the Lady Warhawks by scores of 25-15 and 25-13.

Facing St. Clair’s Lady Bulldogs last night (Tuesday) at Owensville Elementary School, OMS Dutchgirl volleyball will return to action tomorrow night (Thursday) hitting the road into Franklin County taking on Sullivan’s Lady Eagles at Sullivan Middle School.
