OAA cancels summer seasons

Late last Tuesday night, the Owensville Athletic Association (OAA) did something that they did not want to do.

After a meeting of the association, it was decided to cancel the upcoming season of summer t-ball, baseball and softball throughout all four fields used by the OAA.

“We thought of everything possible to try and have a season,” OAA consultant Glenn Ely said. “In the end, things just did not fall the way we wanted them to in order to pull together a normal season.”

One issue was getting uniforms.

“It takes three weeks for uniforms to be ordered and delivered,” Ely said. “Even if we ordered them now, you would’ve been looking at June before they came and there were simply too many unknowns out there due to the coronavirus pandemic.”

With the current social distancing guidelines in effect, Ely said “we didn’t have the resources to support a safe and fun experience for all while staying within social distancing guidelines.”

As of press time, the Gerald Athletic Association (GAA) was planning on waiting until the end of May or early June to make a decision on their season.

Tri-County Youth Association (TCYA) had several teams signed up and ready to play whenever state and local officials give the green light.
