Looking to open 2023 with individual and team wins, Owensville Dutchmen and Dutchgirl wrestlers ventured to Eldon High School last Tuesday to compete in a quadrangular meet against the host Mustangs, Southern Boone Eagles and Windsor Owls.

In spite of several Dutchgirls not wrestling to stay under regular-season match limits, Zach Bollmann’s grapplers managed to win two of their three duals.

Against the host Lady Mustangs, the dual ended in a 24-24 tie with Eldon winning the match on criteria recording the lone win in a contested match.

Aside from Anna Carlin’s (155) loss by fall to Olivia Chapman, Dutchgirl grapplers Jenna Vandegriffe (105), Carly Brown (120), Eliana Thompson (170) and Kelby Schoenfeld (195) all won their matches by forfeit.

Edging Windsor 24-18, Vandegriffe won her match by fall in :30 at 105 pounds while Brown, Thompson and Schoenfeld once again won their matches by forfeit.

Capping the night against Southern Boone, the Dutchgirls defeated the Lady Eagles 24-6 behind wins from Vandegriffe, Carlin, Thompson and Schoenfeld.

Their Dutchmen counterparts were able to leave Mustang country with one dual win.

Defeating Windsor 42-12, the orange and black got wins by forfeit from Umberto Bertesi (132), Gabe Soest (157), Brendan Kramme (190) and Hayden Shoemaker (285). Scoring wins by fall were Timmy Winterbauer (150) over David Bailey in 2:23, Garrett Hunter (165) over Andrew Spear in 3:05 and Kaleb Wells (175) over Khristian Ivie in :42.

Dalton Nochta (120) and A.J. Silvers (215) both lost their respective matches.

Dropping a 45-21 decision to the host Mustangs, Owensville got wins from Kramme and Silvers by forfeit in addition to Shoemaker winning his match via injury default.

Winterbauer also won an 8-3 decision at 150 pounds over Eldon’s Brendan Wilson.

Edged out 36-30 by Southern Boone, OHS got forfeit wins from Hunter, Wells and Shoemaker.

Soest and Kramme won their respective matches by fall for the orange and black.

Saturday at the Cameron Duals Tournament, Dustin Howard’s Dutchmen ran into high-level competition in Dragon country.

Suffering a 66-18 setback against the host Dragons, OHS got wins from Wells, Kramme and Shoemaker.

Stung 72-12 by Chillicothe’s Hornets, Bryce Horstmann (126) and Shoemaker accounted for Owensville’s victories.

Falling 60-12 against Marceline, Winterbauer and Shoemaker posted wins for the Dutchmen against the Tigers.

Dropping a 60-22 dual to Odessa, Owensville got wins from Soest, Winterbauer, Kramme and Shoemaker.

Ending up on the wrong end of a 48-21 final score against Savannah, Dutchmen winners against the Savages included Logan Bailey (215), Kohl Grannemann (285), Wells and Soest.
