OHS nine claw way to pair of home wins

Fresh off a 7-6 extra-inning victory over Cuba the night before on Military Appreciation Day, Tyler Ahring’s Owensville Dutchmen baseball team looked to make it two wins in two days Friday night against Linn’s Wildcats.

Also senior night, OHS wanted to make sure the Dutchmen ended the home portion of their schedule on a winning note.

Trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the third inning, Owensville’s offense came to life.

Putting up three runs each in the third and fourth innings, OHS added an insurance tally in the bottom of the sixth inning to help them hold on for a 7-5 victory on senior night.

There was plenty of excitement on senior night and Military Appreciation Day for that matter.

A total of four home runs left the yard between both varsity and JV games.

OHS Field’s home run drought in baseball ended in the top of the fourth inning of the Cuba game.

Wildcat lead off hitter Austin Stokes hit a two-run home run to left field making him the first high school baseball player to hit a home run out of OHS Field.

In spite of the home run, Owensville came from behind to defeat Cuba 7-6 in eight innings.

Later on the JV game, an Owensville Dutchmen decided to get in on the home run act.

On the fourth pitch of his first at-bat against Cuba, Eoin Krupp launched a solo home run to left field making him the first Dutchmen baseball player to go yard on the new field.

Friday against Linn, two more balls left the yard in varsity action.

Already with a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, Linn’s Cody Leivian hit a grand slam home run emptying the bases giving the Wildcats a 5-0 lead.

OHS had an answer in the bottom of the third inning.

A Dominic Grigaitis single led to Garret West reaching on an error.

This put two runners on base with two outs for junior third baseman Gavin Loague.

On the third pitch of Loague’s at bat, he deposited a ball over the left-field fence for a 3-run home run marking the first round tripper by a varsity Dutchmen baseball player.

Now trailing 5-3 after three innings, Owensville gave themselves a chance to further chip away after Derek Brandt pitched a scoreless top of the fourth against the Wildcats.

TC Fisher led off the bottom of the fourth with a single. Brandt then walked before an Ethan Reed sacrifice bunt advanced the runners.

Grigaitis then doubled home Fisher and Brandt tying the game at 5-5.

Bryor Bogle then delivered a fielder’s choice RBI scoring Grigaitis giving Owensville a 6-5 lead before going on to a 7-5 win.

OHS ends their regular season tomorrow (Thursday) at Waynesville.
