OHS sweeps team titles on home track

That was the goal Friday night for Matt Candrl’s Dutchmen and Dutchgirl track teams during the annual Owensville High School (OHS) Relays at Dutchmen Field.

Scoring points in virtually every event, the Dutchmen and Dutchgirls topped their respective team standings by over 50 points.

Kicking off track events with the girls 4x800-meter relay, the Dutchgirl quartet of Ilene Limberg, Brynn Wright, Abbie Gibson and Hannah Gehlert won the race in a time of 11:05.42.

Emma-lee Wehmeyer (2nd, 17.88) and Ella Gehlert (7th, 20.43) scored team points for the Dutchgirls in the 100m hurdles.

Saylor Richardson added to OHS’ point total with a second-place time of 13.64 in the girls 100m dash.

Adding to their win in the 4x80m relay, the Dutchgirl foursome of Emma Daniels, Gehlert, Wehmeyer and Richardson also posted a first-place time of 1:50.90.

Limberg (2nd, 5:49.46) and Hannah Gehlert (7th, 6:19.91) added team points for OHS in the girls 1600m run.

Herman’s Katy Menke won the mile in a time of 5:38.57.

Wright added five team points for the orange and black with a fourth-place time of 1:07.49 in the girls 400m dash.

Making it 3-for-3 in relay races was the 4x100m Dutchgirl squad of Ali Daniels, Emma Daniels, Cameron Nowack and Richardson with a winning time of 52.75.

Wehmeyer (3rd, 53.03) and Halle Engelbrecht (5th, 56.31) picked up team points in the girls 300m hurdles.

Gibson earned a team point in the girls 800m run with an eighth-place time of 2:55.41.

Limberg (1st, 12:21.43) and Hannah Gehlert (3rd, 13:37.82) picked up 16 team points for the Dutchgirls with their finishes in the girls 3200m run.

Emma Daniels (1st, 27.07), Richardson (4th, 28.36) and McKenzy Echols (7th, 29.06) all added to Owensville’s team point total with their finishes in the girls 200m dash.

Going for a sweep of the girls relay races, the Dutchgirl 4x400m relay team of Ella Gehlert, Ali Daniels, Echols and Gibson settled for a third-place time of 4:34.02.

Ella Gehlert took second in the high jump clearing 1.55m while Ruvia Nowack (6th, 2.30m) and Payton Harness (8th, 2.00m) also scored Dutchgirl team points in the girls pole vault.

Nowack (1st, 4.95m), Emma Daniels (4th, 4.66m) and Harness (8th, 4.40m) added OHS team points in the girls long jump.

Josie Gerlemann placed fifth in the shot put (9.44m) and sixth in the javelin (25.32m).

In a non-scoring event, the Dutchgirl quartet of Payton Boyd, April Jahnsen, Liz Adams and Gerlemann won the girls 4x100m throwers relay in a time of 1:02.51 just edging Hermann and their time of 1:02.95.

“I was very pleased with our girls today,” Candrl said. “Our relay teams ran really well winning three races while taking third place in another.”

For the Dutchmen, the 4x800m relay team of Felix Guerrero, Lucas Morgan, Ethan Harris and Kyle Bollman raced to a second-place time of 9:18.70.

Bryce Payne won both the 110m hurdles (15.42) and the 300m hurdles (42.56).

“Bryce had a solid day today helping us with 20 team points by winning his two races,” Candrl said.

Charlie Whelan sprinted his way to gold in the 100m dash with a winning time of 11.78.

Sprinting to first place in the boys 4x200m relay in a time of 1:33.85 was the Dutchmen foursome of Tanner Meyer, Blake Elliott, Payne and Whelan.

Guerrero placed second in the boys 1600m run in 4:47.49 while Meyer won the boys 400m dash in a time of 53.45.

Placing fifth in 47.51 was the Dutchmen boys 4x100m relay team of Ricardo Marquez, Jesse Weigel, Keontrae Gates and Elliott.

Along with Payne winning the 300m hurdles, Harris (4th, 45.47) and Connor Fisher (6th, 48.42) also picked up team points for the Dutchmen.

Gabe Soest (2nd, 2:06.52) and Guerrero (3rd, 2:08.01) picked up 14 team points in the boys 800m run for the Dutchmen.

Returning from injury, senior Lucas Morgan picked up two team points with his seventh-place time of 11:21.12 in the boys 3200m run.

Cruising to victory in the boys 4x400m relay was the Dutchmen quartet of Meyer, Soest, Payne and Guerrero in a time of 3:33.35.

Soest also cleared 1.60m to place sixth in the boys high jump.

Aries Nicholas (3rd, 3.65m), Ricardo Marquez (4th, 3.65m) and Derrick Marquez (7th, 3.20m) added to Owensville’s team point total in the boys pole vault.

Whelan (6th, 5.95m) and Meyer (7th, 5.90m) scored five Dutchmen team points in the boys long jump.

In addition to his sixth-place finish in the high jump, Soest earned another medal with a fourth-place leap of 11.94m in the boys triple jump.

Junior Hayden Shoemaker topped the field for the Dutchmen in the boys discus with a winning throw of 40.30m while Eli Graham placed eighth with a mark of 34.13m.

Placing seventh in the boys 4x100m throwers relay in a time of 56.68 was the Dutchmen foursome of Jaiden Mason, William Fields, Graham and Shoemaker.

OHS track is scheduled to return to action today (Wednesday) at Washington High School and the Russell C. Nix Relays with events beginning at 2 p.m., in Franklin County.
