OHS wrestlers defeat Valle Catholic at Ste. Genevieve Duals

In spite of Mother Nature’s best efforts over the weekend, Rod Barndollar’s Owensville Dutchmen wrestlers were able to get four dual meets in during the annual Ste. Genevieve Duals Wrestling Tournament.

Owensville faced off against the host Dragons, Valle Catholic, Mehlville and Dexter.

Against the Warriors of Valle Catholic who are also out of Ste. Genevieve, OHS won four of five contested matches to post a 29-24 team victory.

106-pound freshman Michael Martin pinned Kayden Gegg in :15 while 132-pound senior Tighe Bombach won by technical fall 17-0 over Joseph Flieg.

Gabe Soest won by forfeit at 138 pounds before Alan Kopp was pinned by Trey Huck in 2:24 at 160 pounds.

Zach Adams snapped Valle’s three match win streak with a win by fall over Timothy Okenfuss in :56 at 170 pounds.

Michael Stockton kept the OHS win parade rolling with a win by fall over Adrian Lipp in 1:04 at 195 pounds.

Dutchmen heavyweight Alex Pack was pinned in 2:44 by Valle’s Jacob Calbreath at 285 pounds.

Facing the host Dragons from Ste. Genevieve, Owensville fell by a team score of 60-18.

Scoring wins against the Dragons for the Dutchmen were Martin, Kopp and Adams.

Falling 48-24 as a team against Mehlville, Owensville got victories from Martin, Bombach, Stockton and Pack.

In their final dual of the tournament, the Dutchmen fell to Dexter by a team score of 53-15.

Martin, Stockton and Bombach added to their victory totals for the tournament with wins in their matches over the Bearcats.

Last Wednesday night at Sullivan High School, Owensville competed in a Four Rivers Conference quad meet against the host Eagles, St. Clair and St. James.

Against St. Clair, the Dutchmen were edged 47-36 in spite of victories from Kopp, Adams, Cody Linders, Stockton, Kohl Grannemann and Pack.

Falling 57-24 to St. James, Owensville got wins from Bombach, Kopp, Adams and Martin who bounced back from a loss against St. Clair.

Taking on the host Eagles, OHS fell 65-18 in team scoring with wins by Martin, Aries Nicholas and Bombach.

On Saturday, Owensville High School will play host to the annual Owensville Wrestling Invitational marking the first time for Dutchmen wrestlers to compete in front of their home fans during the 2019-20 home season.

Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m., and last throghout the day.

Teams scheduled to compete alongside the host Dutchmen include Affton, Blair Oaks, Boonville, Cameron, Capital City, Central (Park Hills), Dexter, Fatima, Lebanon, Missouri Military Academy, School of the Osage, St. Francis Borgia, St. James and Sullivan.
