ROLLA — Whether it was Dutchgirls at the Noel Tough as Nails Tournament in Rolla or the Dutchmen at the Colombo Classic, Owensville High School wrestlers coached by Dustin Howard and Zach Bollman fared quite well Saturday.

Over at Tower Grove Christian Academy in the St. Louis area, Howard’s Dutchmen placed third as a team with 136 points out of 16 scoring teams.

Making his debut, OHS sophomore Michael Martin wrestled for the Dutchmen at 113 pounds.

Winning all three of his matches by fall in the first period, Martin needed just 3:33 of mat time to score 20 points and win his weight class.

Placing second at Pleasant Hill the previous weekend, freshman Conner Roach looked to claim his first tournament championship in an OHS wrestling singlet.

In addition to winning a 3-2 decision over Clayton’s Nate Martin, Roach pinned his other three opponents at 120 pounds in a combined time of 3:02 to win his weight class.

Aries Nicholas nearly made it three tournament champions for the Dutchmen.

Pinning his way to the championship match at 132 pounds, Nicholas was pinned by Valle Catholic’s Joseph Flieg in 3:12 forcing him to settle for second place.

At 138 pounds, Tyler Scheer’s lone win of the tournament in the consolation round over Lift for Life’s Anthony Johnson by fall in :42.

Elijah Berkaw pinned Jackson Morris (Maplewood-Richmond Heights) and Payton Heberlie (Valle Catholic) to reach the third-place match at 145 pounds before being pinned by Father Tolton’s William Hazelrigg in 1:04.

Gabe Soest won three matches by fall including a victory in the third-place match over Roosevelt’s Khalil Hill in 1:26.

Gerrit VanBerkel also claimed third place at 160 pounds pinning Lift for Life’s Kamal McDonald in :31 to go along with two more victories by fall.

Senior Alan Kopp claimed second place at 170 pounds with three wins by fall. His lone loss came to Central New Madrid’s Jacob Wilcox by fall in 5:53.

Freshman Landon Kramme made it a trio of third-place Dutchmen wrestlers pinning Valle Catholic’s Timothy Okenfuss in 3:22 during the third-place match.

For those that are curious, the wrestler that Kramme defeated is related to current Owensville High School Athletic/Activities Director Ryan Okenfuss.

Eli Wilson won his last match of the tournament at 195 pounds by fall over Michael Montalbano (Maplewood-Richmond Heights) by fall in 3:19 to place secure fifth place.

Kohl Grannemann picked up his lone win at the Colombo Classic at 285 pounds with a win by fall over Matteo Oliver (Gateway Science Academy) in the consolation side of the bracket.

Dutchgirls at Rolla

Over at Rolla High School and the Noel Tough as Nails Tournament, Dutchgirl freshman Jersey Reynolds wrestled her way into the history books.

Winning three of her four pool matches at 110 pounds, Reynolds advanced to the third-place match against Blair Oaks’ Maddalen Prenger.

Defeating the Lady Falcon grappler by fall, Reynolds became the first Owensville Dutchgirl wrestler to leave a tournament with a medal.

Fellow freshman Elizabeth Adams nearly made it two medalists.

Also winning three of her pool matches at 115 pounds, Adams advanced to the third-place match against Rolla’s Gracie Skyles.

Dropping a 6-4 decision, Adams settled for fourth place at Rolla.

Losing her first two matches at 141 pounds, McKenzy Echols won her next three bouts by fall to secure fifth place in the tournament.
