OHS wrestlers place second at Ste. Gen.

Opening 2021 on the road over the weekend in Ste. Genevieve, Dustin Howard’s Owensville Dutchmen wrestlers looked to leave Dragon country with hardware.

Winning four of their five duals Saturday, they did exactly that bring home the second-place plaque.

In their first dual of the tournament, OHS took on Valle Catholic also out of Ste. Genevieve.

Owensville defeated the Warriors 42-30 with victories from Xander Lansford (138 pounds), Sean Million (160), Alan Kopp (170 pounds), Eli Wilson (182), Dakota Martin (195), Michael Martin (106) and Bobby Coello (113).

Kolby Jahnsen (145), Gabe Soest (152), Hayden Shoemaker (285) and Aries Nicholas (120) lost their contested matches against Valle Catholic.

Facing the host Dragons in their second dual of the day, OHS fell to Ste. Genevieve 60-18.

Victories for the Dutchmen against the Dragons were earned by Lansford and the Martin brothers.

Looking for their second dual win of the day, Owensville went up against Dexter’s Bearcats.

Winning by a team score of 48-30, OHS improved to 2-1 on the day.

Scoring wins against Dexter were Coello, Lansford, Soest, Kopp, Chris Stockton (182), Dakota Martin, Kyle O’Neal and Michael Martin.

Taking on Mehlville in the third round, Owensville won all but one contested match going on to take that dual by a team score of 66-6.

Lansford, Jahnsen, Million, Kopp, Stockton, Dakota Martin, O’Neal, Shoemaker, Michael Martin, Coello and Nicholas all won their respective matches.

Final-round wrestling saw a close dual between the Dutchmen and Windsor.

Edging the Owls 39-36, Owensville claimed second-place hardware from Dragon country.

Jahnsen, Soest, Dakota Martin and Kyle O’Neal each won by forfeit with Windsor open in their respective weight classes.

Kopp won an 8-1 decision while Stockton and Michael Martin both claimed victories in their respective matches by fall.
