Looking for tournaments to replace several that were canceled or dropped, Owensville High School wrestling competed earlier this month at the Hallsville Duals Tournament.
Along with the host Indians, Dustin Howard’s Dutchmen wrestlers also competed against Brookfield, St. Paul Lutheran (Concordia), St. Francis Borgia and Tipton.
In their dual against Hallsville, Owensville edged the host Indians 39-33.
Gabe Soest and Kohl Grannemann both won their matches by forfeit at 152 and 285 pounds respectively.
Winning contested matches for the Dutchmen against Hallsville were Alan Kopp (170), Christopher Stockton (182), Dakota Martin (195), Brent Helmig (220) and Michael Martin (106).
Aries Nicholas (120), Xander Lansford (138), Kolby Jahnsen (145) and Jackson Carrell (160) took losses in their contested bouts against Hallsville.
Facing Brookfield’s Bulldogs, Howard’s Dutchmen won five matches but dropped the dual by a team score of 46-30.
Michael Martin won his second match of the day by fall while Stockton also won his match by fall.
Nicholas, Jahnsen and Carrell all won their matches by forfeit against Brookfield.
Lansford, Soest, Kopp, Helmig and Grannemann were all pinned in their respective matches against Brookfield.
Dakota Martin dropped a 12-4 major decision in his match against Brookfield.
Next up was St. Paul Lutheran (Concordia) at Hallsville.
Winning six matches, Owensville was edged out by St. Paul Lutheran winning seven matches taking the team score 39-36.
Lansford, Soest, Kopp, Dakota Martin and Helmig all won their matches by fall.
Michael Martin won by forfeit for his third victory of the day.
Carrell and Grannemann were both pinned against St. Paul.
Against Borgia, OHS won nine matches en route to a 54-12 victory in team scoring.
Lansford, Jahnsen, Dakota Martin, Helmig, Grannemann and Michael Martin all won by forfeit against the Knights.
Soest, Carrell and Stockton won contested matches.
Defeating Tipton 46-30 in the final team dual, Owensville clinched third place at Hallsville.
Winning for OHS against the Cardinals were Lansford, Carrell, Kopp, Dakota Martin, Helmig, Grannemann, Michael Martin and Nicholas.
