OHS wrestlers return to action after quarantine

Out of action for over two weeks due to a COVID-19 quarantine, Dustin Howard’s Owensville High School wrestlers finally got to hit the mats again last Tuesday in a home tri-meet against Central Park Hills (CPH) and St. James.

Opening the meet against CPH’s Rebels, the Dutchmen were only able to win one match before falling 46-6 in team scoring.

Alan Kopp scored the lone victory for OHS against the Rebels with a win by fall in :25 at 170 pounds over CPH’s Logan Boyer.

In the middle dual of the meet, St. James defeated Central Park Hills 39-33.

Closing the meet in the third dual was the host Dutchmen and Tigers from St. James.

In spite of dropping the dual 48-30 as a team, five Owensville wrestlers posted victories including two of them scoring their first varsity victories.

Kopp and Eli Wilson earned wins by forfeit at 170 and 182 pounds respectively with St. James open in those weight classes.

Christopher Stockton (195), Kyle O’Neal (220) and Hayden Shoemaker (285) each won their respective matches by fall against St. James.

For O’Neal and Shoemaker, it was their first varsity win in an Owensville wrestling singlet.

Dutchgirl senior Haven Sanders won by forfeit against Central Park Hills but was pinned against St. James.

She also sustained a season-ending knee injury which will keep her out of this weekend’s Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 1, District 2 Wrestling Tournament at St. Clair High School.

Fresh off his first varsity win three nights earlier, Shoemaker was among six Dutchmen grapplers competing in the annual Owensville JV Wrestling Tournament Friday night.

Winning his three pool matches at 285 pounds, Shoemaker advanced to the championship match which he won by medical forfeit.

Other JV Dutchmen wrestlers placing in their respective weight classes included O’Neal (4th at 220), Wilson (3rd at 182), Jackson Carrell (2nd at 160), Kayden Loeb (4th at 152) and Jordan Bialczyk (5th at 145).

Buffalo Tournament results from Saturday will be in next week’s Republican.
